- The National Medical University of Vinnitsa was established in 1921. Pirogov was honoured by having his educational institution named after him in 1960. It received the Order of the Badge of Honour in 1984. Vinnytsia Medical Institute has been certified and accredited as a university by the IV level of accreditation since 1994.
- The university is also known as National Pirogov Memorial Medical University. Roughly 5,300 students attend the university, with nearly 980 of them being international students.

- From 2019 it is mandatory to pass the NEET exam in order to study in any country abroad .
- Students must have finished a regular board or university's 10th +2 or equivalent.
- If the student is from the SC/OBC/ST Category, they must earn at least 40% in Physics, Biology, and Chemistry in their 12th grade, and English must be a compulsory subject.
- In India, there are no entrance exams such as IELTS or SAT. NEET certification is required.
- The student must be at least 17 years old on December 31st of the year in which admission is sought.
