The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) was established in
the year 1962. The institute is one of the top institutes of medical education in India. Currently,
the institute functions under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Indian Nursing
Council, and the Government of India.

quality medical teachers and doctors. The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and
Research (PGIMER) offers over 50 medical courses such as medical courses, para-medical
courses, nursing courses, residency programs, short-term training, elective training, and MHA,
MPH, PGDPHM, and fellowship courses.

The founders of the institute are Tulsi Das, Bala Krishna, BN Aikat, Sant Ram Dhall, PN
Chutani, and Santokh Singh Anand.

The PGIMER was conceived and designed in 1960 to serve as a physical and intellectual
landmark for young scientists employed in a variety of medical disciplines, as well as to provide
humanitarian services to the sick and victims of the knowledge areas in Chandigarh. and use the
trained manpower in medical and paramedical fields. The institute was established in 1962 when
Punjab was still a separate state. Through an Act of Parliament, it was designated as a national
institution on April 1, 1967. (Sr. No. 51 of 1966).

The admission process of PGIMER 2021 is basically a 4 stage process which is described below:

- To apply for PGIMER admission, candidates must check the eligibility of the course in which they wish to take admission. Then, the online application form has to be filled and submitted online at pgimer.edu.in.

- Candidates who successfully apply are issued an Admit Card to appear for the examination conducted in Computer Based Examination Mode. Admit cards are issued in online mode only under the respective login of the candidates they create while filling the admission application form. If the admit card is issued, the candidates will have to appear for the entrance examination according to the exam date, time, and venue mentioned thereon. Candidates without admit card cannot appear for CBT.

- Candidates who have passed the examination are called for counseling conducted by PGIMER for allocation of seats. Counseling is conducted offline and candidates are required to report to the counseling venue as per the allotted time and date. Admission is granted on completion of counseling formalities.
