Hostels: Every student at IIT(ISM) Dhanbad is given a spacious room on a twin-sharing basis on a twin-sharing basis. Each room comes equipped with the the requisite amount of lighting and electrical ports, a fan, a chair, a table and a cot. The toilets and bathrooms are shared (with about 4 available for every 16 rooms on an average). Eachh hostel has its own history and unique facilities, but all of them have the basics i.e. a mess, a canteen, a juice center, a stationary shop, a TV room, an indoor sports room, and laundry facilities. There are 7 boys’ and 4 girls’ hostels, with an entirely separate one for the international students. With the institute possessing a rich history in the field of Earth Science's, the hostels are considered to be its gems and are henceforth named on precious stones as Opal, Topaz, Sapphire, Diamond, Amber etc. A few additional hostels are being constructed to accommodate the ever-increasing advent of students.

IIT Dhanbad students pursue diverse career paths, including corporate jobs in various sectors, government jobs, higher studies, entrepreneurship, and social and other pursuits. In the last three years, ~20% of graduating students opted to pursue higher studies from some of the best universities/institutions abroad and in India. The Institute has a vibrant incubation center, where several companies launched by our undergraduates are being incubated.
