AIIMS got its pillar established in the year 1956, post the recommendation by the Health survey of India's government, It was originally proposed by the prime minister of India ‘Jawaharlal Nehru’ for the foundation in Calcutta. However, It was set up in New Delhi following the Chief Minister of West Bengal Bidhan Chandra Roy's refusal.
